Community Driver

Do you have a reliable vehicle, a clean driving record, enjoy helping people, have some free time and want to earn extra tax free money? We are in need of per diem drivers, who use their own vehicle to transport people to medical and other appointments, in return for a generous mileage reimbursement. Hours are flexible. Seasonal CDL Bus Driver

Starting Rate: $25.00 per hour

Reports to: Operation Manger

 

Position Summary

This position provides transportation services to a diverse range of individuals and groups, including the elderly, disabled, and transportation-disadvantaged populations. CDL Drivers are key representatives of MVRTD and play a major role in shaping the public image of the organization. Reasonable accommodation will be made in accordance with applicable laws, including the ADA.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Perform daily pre-trip inspections of assigned vehicle to ensure safe operation.
  2. Check message boards and communicate with dispatch regarding route deviations or operational changes.
  3. Review daily work assignment paperwork and confirm understanding of route instructions.
  4. Follow assigned routes and maintain schedule; notify dispatch for approval before deviating from the route.
  5. Provide boarding and disembarking assistance to passengers as needed, including securing mobility carts and wheelchairs.
  6. Collect fares, coupons, or other revenue forms and maintain accurate records for reporting.
  7. Communicate operational issues, potential improvements, or incidents to the Driver Supervisor.
  8. Report any damage to company property, whether responsible or not.
  9. Wear uniform properly and maintain professional appearance at all times during assignments. Foster a positive work environment and uphold the company image.
  10. Report any injuries immediately to Operations Manager using the appropriate reporting process.

 

 

General Environmental Conditions

  • Operates MVRTD vehicles of varying sizes (van, small, mid-size, or large bus).
  • Visual acuity required to read schedules, street signs, and safety warnings in all lighting conditions.
  • Extensive use of hearing for communication with dispatch, drivers, and the public, including two-way radio.
  • Moderate physical exertion: occasional walking, standing, pushing, or pulling to secure mobility equipment.
  • Exposed to varying weather conditions while operating or assisting passengers

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to safely board and assist passengers, including those with disabilities.
  • Must be able to operate vehicle controls and secure mobility devices using hands, arms, and upper body.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while driving.
  • Must maintain alertness and reaction capability under driving conditions

Qualification

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with passengers, dispatch, and co-workers.
  • Customer-service oriented, patient, and professional demeanor.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.

Scheduling

  • Training Begins: October 5, 2026.
  • Seasonal Assignment: Employment is expected to continue through approximately March 30, 2027. Seasonal employment may end on or around this date based on operational needs.
  • Work Schedule: Flexible shifts are available seven days a week, with start times ranging from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. (midnight).
  • Availability: Candidates must be available to work weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required to meet service demands.
